Hot chocolate never goes out of style as a must have winter drink, although my house is divided between that and hot apple cider which I made only recently. But we recently decided to try a twist on a old classic and put some cinnamon in our hot cocoa. Cinnamon hot chocolate. Yum. Doesn’t that just sound scrumptious?
We actually made a super awesome hot apple cider recipe recently, too, and instead of all the added sugar found in a lot of those packets from the store, we used essential oils from Young Living’s vitality line. I must say, the end result turned out better than expected. With the taste of cinnamon bark (which we’ll be using again in today’s recipe), plus hits of nutmeg, ginger, and tangerine from essential oils, it was absolutely delicious.
And not only was it tasty and warm, it was healthy. With ingredients like cinnamon and clove, all with antioxidant properties, it was just what my family needed as we’re entering cold and flu season since in my house we use all natural remedies, many of which contain honey. Just like the hot apple cider.

I know a lot of us are looking for convenience, and I think it’s unfortunate that there are so many added ingredients in the store packets of instant apple ciders and cocoas that don’t provide benefit. Believe me, with raw honey and cinnamon bark though, this recipe will pack a lot of health benefits without the added yuck.
Again, the pre-made store packets often house a lot of unnecessary and artificial additives, not to mention too much processed sugar which has been said to possibly lead to a temporary suppression in our immune system. Meaning, it could lead to a weak immune system and in turn get you sick. Too much processed sugar = Sick! That’s a no go for us.
Which is why my family opts for all natural ingredients and recipes, when possible.
I got this particular recipe from my recent copy of Young Living’s Essential Oils magazine, which came free with my purchase of yet another premium starter kit. There was a similar hot chocolate recipe to the one I’m about to list, but instead of Cinnamon Vitality, they used Lavender Vitality.
For Cinnamon Hot Chocolate, you will need:
4 cups milk (of your choice- I use Coconut and Almond)
8 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp Pure Vanilla extract
4 tsp raw honey
2 drops Cinnamon Vitality
Heat the milk in a sauce pan over medium high heat until hot, but not boiling. Remove from heat and add all ingredients, minus the Cinnamon Vitality. Whisk until smooth.
While still warm, add 1 or 2 drops of Cinnamon Vitality. Serve immediately.
What do you think? Cinnamon or Lavender? Which sounds more appealing? Let us know by commenting below, and be sure to share this recipe with all of your friends! Blessings are best shared, and you don’t want your friends stocking up on those unhealthy store bought hot cocoa options. Yuck!
If I were you, I’d definitely be trying both the Cinnamon and Lavender Hot Cocoa recipes in the near future. That’s for sure!
