Revelation 12:11 is a powerful verse. It talks of victory. It speaks of Jesus. And while Jesus died for us and did a thing, there’s a second part to this verse that is just as important. It tells us that we, as followers of Christ, are overcomers.
We overcome by the blood of the Lamb. That’s Jesus. And, this second part is what gets you. Our testimony.
As believers, we are called to hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
1 Peter 3:15 says “but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”
We, as followers of Jesus Christ are called to share our testimony. And more often than not, that means disclosing sin- and Jesus’s victory over it in our lives.
“Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:57
This is important because the enemy would have you believe the lie that you’re alone. That you’re the only one who sins. You’re the only one who struggles and doesn’t ‘have it altogether’.
Those are lies. All lies.
The truth is that we all struggle. And there is no one righteous, no not one. Romans 3:10
The truth is that the death Jesus died on the cross was a death we all deserved. Because the price of sin is death.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
In God’s eyes, all sin is bad and wrong. It breaks God’s heart and separates us from Him.
Doesn’t matter if it’s alcoholism, drug addiction, adultery, fantasizing, stealing, or lying. Or if it’s a branch off of that root, like shame, and guilt- both of which are of the enemy, not God.
Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
We are free from sin and death because of Christ’s sacrifice. Because of His death on the cross in which He bore our sin. He became a curse for us and carried our sin, and in His resurrection He took back the keys from Hades and Death. He conquered both. Revelation 1:18 tells us He has the keys.
And death is the last enemy to be conquered. 1 Corinthians 15:26
Death has been defeated. 1 Corinthians 15:54 It has been swallowed up in victory.
We as Christians are now fighting from a place of victory. Because of Christ dying for us.
He tore the veil. And now, we can come boldly before the throne. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
That victory alone is reason to wake up every day praising God!
